It may look as if it is growing in a wildflower meadow, but it is on the edge of a field of rape. The fields behind us have a “wild life corridor” around the perimeter – a 5m wide strip, sown with a variety of grasses and wildflowers, established about 3 years ago. It’s too early for the wildflowers, and by the time that they flower these big blowsy poppies will have gone to seed. Instead a smaller version flowers amongst a wide variety of other meadow flowers in the grass.
