I try to have some winter colour in the garden, and two Mahonia bushes add a welcome and none too subtle splash of yellow, dominating the larger but more shy adjacent viburnum shrub, with it’s small scented flowers. A winter flowering jasmine grows up the side of the garden shed at the bottom of the garden, somewhat wasted since we can’t see it from the house. I am keeping an eye on the Hellebore buds, currently closed, but should be open by Christmas, when I will be cutting back the overarching protective leaves to reveal the deep purple blowsy flowers that will brighten up those dismal weeks between Christmas and the first signs of early spring.
It's beautiful!
