Magnolia by shepherdman

Magnolia

This magnolia dominates our front garden, having been carefully transported by @shepherdmanswife through two house moves. I think that this is now its permanent home – not only is it now too big to transplant, but we also have no intention of moving house again for the foreseeable future. I’m not a big fan of this large shrub. In spring it produces a brief display of flowers (very brief if we have a windy spring) which then fall making a mess of the front garden. Throughout the summer its display is restricted to green leaves of limited interest, which then fall making a further mess of the front garden. And finally in winter its display is restricted to what is basically a collection of twigs. But since @shepherdmanswife loves the shrub, it will be staying.
I know this sort of magnolia and agree with you. Another sort which we have has lovely glossy leaves all year and the white flowers come out on and off throughout the year!

It is a gorgeous looking shrub at present - good to hear that @shepherdmanswife won't let you prune it at ground level.

LOvely magnolia. Like your exprt opinion on this tree. I love to see them in the garden of others but for the reasons you state above it will stay out of my garden
