No frosts yet, and so most leaves are hanging on, with only a shallow bed of leaves on the ground. The autumn colours have been muted this year, the leaves on many trees, particularly oaks, turning from green to senescent brown, with no transitional or golden hues. The really mild weather that we have experienced may be the reason for this, and much as I love the calm and chilly but bright days of a traditional autumnal season, with, dewy mornings, crystal clear sunny days and foggy nights, I have appreciated the extended late summer that we have enjoyed, mild, and, most importantly as far as dog walking is concerned, dry. Over the last few days the temperature has been dropping – not dramatically, but just enough to remind me that the season of cold and damp walks is overdue. It’s getting out of the warm house that will be the problem - once I’m out on the walk I don’t notice the cold (unless, maybe, if a cold wind adds extra bite). The dogs, of course, just want to be out whatever the weather.
I keep my house at 65 (18C) to save on the cost of heating so I want to stay under the blankets in the morning, but my cat insists on eating her breakfast. The pets they just rule. Love that you not only caught the tree in light but also a pretty good shadow on the grass. And if you look quickly where the sun comes through the tree is almost looks like a heart.
