Our Lane is lined with mature trees, all of which pre-date even the oldest cottage in the lane, which would probably have been built at the end of the 19th century. This oak, displayed in autumnal morning glory, is outside our neighbour’s home. Our house also had a large mature oak at the
boundary with the Lane, but one of the stipulations made by @shepherdmanswife was that if we bought the house, the oak had to go. The tree was growing in the middle of the south facing house frontage, with branches growing up against upstairs bedroom windows, and as a result, the house was dark inside, even on a bright day. @shepherdmanswife was right, of course, but I was sad to see the 150 year old tree go. Don’t tell @shepherdmanswife, but I had secretly hoped that a Tree Preservation Order applied to the oak. However the local Council assured us that this was not the case. And so we now have bright and cheerful rooms, and the neighbours are grateful that they have less leaf-clearing to do each autumn.
The sky below is reflecting the colors of the tree. Wow. I like when trees are allowed to live. They seem to be cut down here before they live that long.
Oh, such a beautiful tree! Interesting how your framing "squeezes" the tree, and makes us read the story to see why that framing works for your story. Sad for tree loss, hooray for sunshine and light!
