A bit of an infill image – another bird through the kitchen window. For years I was in charge of re-stocking the bird feeders, but then @shepherdmanswife discovered the delights of ornithological photography (on a purely domestic scale) and since that time she has taken over the avian catering business. She is much better than me – since I would go for days at a time without seeing the garden in daylight, I kept forgetting to top up the feeders, which is a very bad thing when it comes to feeding birds in winter. @shepherdmanswife often works at home in afternoons, and sees any depleted feeders, which are promptly replenished. Not only that, but the menu has become more extensive. I provided mixed seeds, peanuts and fat balls. Nowadays the options are wild bird seed and sunflower hearts and peanuts and fat balls and suet blocks and Niger seeds and meal worms and suet berry pellets and high energy seed. Sometimes we see birds just sitting on an adjacent branch while deciding what to choose from the menu.
Love the detail on the bird. How wonderful that they have so much to choose from! Ours only get black oil sunflower seeds, and suet when my sister remembers to put it out. :)
