I’ve never been a huge fan of fairs – they always seem to be an expensive way of being uncomfortable. I used to take my sons when they were younger; my youngest son in particular loved them. Mind you he wasn’t paying. I remember promising a last whirling/twisting ride at Midsummer Fair in Cambridge before, not realising that it was after the “watershed hour” after which rides were more fast and furious to attract older customers. My son loved it. I was terrified. Then there was the time on a high-swinging Pirate Ship when there was more fresh air than there should have been under my young son’s bottom as he took off from the seat. Somehow he survived successfully to adulthood.
I hate these big rids on fun fairs, they have always made me feel ill. I am not good with any kind of travelling and can feel ill on bus, plane and even at time car, so these rides are right out for me.
I remember taking my niece and her wanting to do rides I would never do when I was a kid. I did them with her and knew I would never go that route again. If I take a child they can either do the rides alone or we will skip them.
