The sticky buds are developing on the local Horse Chestnut or “conker” trees. I thought that this may be an early sign of spring, but apparently the trees have sticky buds throughout late winter, although I am sure that the buds are swelling early prior to blossom in spring. Incidentally, I Googled “sticky buds” to confirm when they first appear, and got some interesting results. Sticky buds apparently occur in many countries but the descriptions that I found do not necessarily match the buds we find in our part of rural England….
Great detail of this "sticky bud" I think everything is ahead of itself at the moment. I just hope we don't get hard frost to kill things. We actually saw a hawthorn hedge out in leaf just into the new year.
What terrific focus - another plant I'm not familiar with - I know I've heard of horse chestnut trees - just never seen these buds. They're so neat - love the colors.
Lovely shot
