Hazel or Alder catkins! by shepherdman

Hazel or Alder catkins!

I think that these are Hazel Catkins, but may be Alder. Each year I intend to look at the leaves when they appear, which will give me a bigger clue, but each year I forget. Even if I remembered, I would have forgotten what they were by the time the catkins re-appear in the following season. I am sure that, whatever they are, they are early this year.
They make a great focus!

Great dof and beautiful lighting to show off these pretty catkins. Love the bokeh against their detail.

My guess would be hazel, but I agree without leaves difficult to tell. Great shot and nice detail whichever they are.

What interesting things. Doesn't it make you wonder how they got the name catkins?
