Oak trees around us are one of the last trees to lose their leaves in autumn. This one on Croft Hill seems to have retained its full compliment of foliage, despite recent winds and at least one night of frost. We are lucky to have quite a few oak trees around us, including one in our garden. Oaks apparently support a larger variety of wildlife than any other native tree in the UK. There was a fine oak tree in the front garden we we bought the house, but since the branches brushed up against the windows, making the house dark, @shepherdmanswife decreed that it had to be felled. The logs kept us warm for at least one winter, and a large section of the trunk still lies in front of the house.
I think you caught it at the right time. There is enough foliage to give it shape and colour, but not enough to hide the intricate structure of the branches.
