To most this is Cow Parsley. I, along with all my friends from this part of the world, know it as "Keck". I do not know why it is known as Keck, or whether this is a term restricted to the Midlands, East Midlands, Leicestershire, or even just south Leicestershire. Richard Brown @rjb71 - has this term made it to Rutland?
Lovely golden tones. I've always known it as Keck but i was brought up in Leicestershire just over the border from Rutland. But having checked with my wife who was brought up in Oakham she also knows it as Keck :)
"It is also sometimes called mother-die (especially in the UK), a name that is also applied to the common hawthorn" I know it as cow parsley, not keck or hawthorn either. Hawthorne has prickles!
I have always called it keck I am from Grantham Lincolnshire but now living in Peterborough. We used to collect it for our pet rabbits when we were children a long time ago.
