With a queue of narrow boats waiting to ascend the flight of flocks at the Bingley Five Rise Locks on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, the two lock keepers, who I think are volunteers, were kept busy instructing the boat "skippers". Most would have been holiday makers, many inexperienced and glad of the help. We saw at least one
chap approaching the locks with a folder of instructions laid out ready on the cabin roof.
