I definitely prefer to enjoy water sports from the shore. I have tried; I have been towed at speed on a knee-board until I was thrown off and skimmed across the waves. I tried water skiing. but never quite managed to stand up. I have even tried sub-aqua diving, but only to the bottom of our local swimming pool. I have never attempted to surf, and I suspect that I never will.
