Tia, our rescue dog who has lived with us for the past 2 years, was abused by someone who used her as a breeding machine. She was only about 2 1/2 years old and had already had several litters. Her previous owners did it for £50 per pup and in the process neglected her. She was rescued by the RSPCA with her 9 puppies. She was a walking skeleton and very timid.
I made several trips to the RSPCA to visit her and to try to gain some trust. We couldn't adopt her straight away as she was in season again. We took Lesia to make sure they would get on with each other. That went well. Then, just as I was about to bring her home her pups were diagnosed with an infection which she might have too so we had to wait a few days more.
So, after home checks we were allowed to adopt Tia. I was hoping that she would be 'my' dog, as our last rescue, Breeze, was. Breeze would follow me everywhere and when she got too old and full of arthritis, she would follow me with her eyes.
It wasn't to be. Tia became securely attached to @shepherdman instead.
So, this morning he went to church and I caught Tia sulking by the front door in the sunshine, waiting for her dad to come home.
It really pulls at the heartstrings to see her like this, but what can one do? Our pets do tend to chose their owners, don't they?
She is so lucky to have found a home with you. Looking to add a dog to our family - hubby has very lovely puppy in mind, I have very lovely rescue dog in mind. I WILL get my way :))
@julievalerie I do hope so. They seem to be thankful all their lives despite the horrors they may have already suffered. They really do make wonderful, loyal pets.
OMG.. what a touhcing image. What a lucky dog to have you guys in her life. I´m a dog lover too and I can't imagine someone doing all this kind of crazy things with them. God Bless.
Oh Goodness she looks so sad, she can really pull at the heartstrings. Brilliant shot to show her 'Daddy' when he came home.
She has such a sad story, people like that make me so cross. I volunteer at our DT & I come across lots of things like this.
Wonderful capture of her emotion!! Makes me sick how some people could do that to animals so sad! But in Tia's case turns out to be a happy ending she is blessed to have you and your husband! I'm wondering if her attachment to your husband could be because she considers him to be her Alpha male. Stunning picture!! :)
So lovely that she is now lived and cared for. What a great image too; really tells a story. Give her lots of love and cuddles from me (a total animal softie!)
This is a touching and beautiful shot, with very lovely light. Thank goodness you rescued Tia and gave her a home in which she is loved and cherished. She looks sad here, but she will have her dad again--and I'm sure she loves you too even if her first attachment is to your husband. Her story reminds me of a dog, a long-haired chihuahua, who lives with a friend of mine and is a rescue from a puppy mill here in Ontario. She was also used for breeding. She was scared of everything and everyone when my friend first took her, but has made tremendous progress, as I could see this afternoon when the three of us went for a walk. She still has some timidity, but is so much better she is hardly the same dog. She didn't even know how to go on a walk at first--I suppose she was never taken for one in her previous life. Now she enjoys it and sniffs things--she is learning how yo be a dog! Tristan and I send our very best wishes to Tia, thank goodness there are people in the world like you and your husband. And this is a fav of course!
What an amazing capture, full of emotion! The lighting is lovely, and your narrative very touching. If dogs can have portraits, this one is sure telling.
What an amazingly heartfelt capture. And your story portrays that of a huge heart full of love for our furry four legged friends. Such a lucky dog to have master's with love like this. Love this pic it is a FAV for me!
Great capture of a sad looking Tia - maybe you could take a photo when daddy comes home so we can see a happy Tia too! Wonderful that she is now very much loved.
THis is one sad looking pup!! Over time, I wonder if she'll eventually realize that even if you are second choice, you're still a GOOD choice? They do make up their own minds, don't they? Sherlock, my brother's hunting dog that I posted this weekend, is besotted by my sister-in-law.
You have captured her mood perfectly. It is always so heart wrenching to see and read about the dreadful things some humans do to animals. Taking on a rescue dog is so rewarding.
Whenever I see or read stories like this I just get so angry, can't believe the things some human beings (are they even human?) do to helpless animals. My cat Casper was found in a ditch as a kitten together with his siblings just thrown away like a piece of garbage. So happy for people like you who can and will adopt these animals. Great moody shot btw.
Dogs can be so expressive - either sad and doleful or bounding with enthusiasm. I'm glad she's found a good home after her bad start in life. We've always had rescue dogs ourselves. I would rather give a home to a dog that needs it than put money in a breeder's pocket.
awww what an expression! the story is wonderful. she is so beautiful and i am so glad you rescued her. my husband brought home 2 strays--a mom and pup last May that were living under a tool shed, and we love them dearly like the one we already had. i wish i could adopt a million of them, tho it's hard enough sleeping with 3! one on my stomach, one under my arm pit and one on my thigh. hahaha!
Awww, the image is very compelling. Tia is wearing her heart right in her eyes. Love your story about her adoption. I'm so glad she found a loving home with you.
This sort of story makes me so angry - my Luna's class is full of rescue dogs with the sweetest temperaments - I can't comprehend how anyone could be cruel to an animal. Beautiful shot of a beautiful dog
Awww - this melts the heart. I had a mastiff/great dane girlie who had been horribly abused and beaten and she never completely was at ease with men. So rewarding, though!
