taken at the Puissance at London Horse Show at Olympia on Thursday night.
This poor horse hesitated at the 7 foot wall, then went for it but got his stride all wrong. Luckily, unlike the old days when the wall was made of harder material, the horse and rider were not hurt. The wall appears to be made of polystyrene blocks and collapses very easily.
The horses can't see over the wall before they jump it so are very brave to attempt to jump over something not knowing what is on the other side. The winning horse jumped 7 feet clear. Amazing to see even though I am still quite poorly and could have done with staying at home.
Great shot, my mum used to like watching the showjumping and always had mixed feelings about the Puissance wall. Glad the bricks are made of lightweight polystyrene. Glad you enjoyed your day out, get well soon.
Happy to know that no one is hurt, last week one of the most amazing horse fall, broke a leg and had to be put to sleep in geneva with the same top riders.
What it your first show jumping?
Excellent capture. An exciting event to watch if you enjoy the feel of your heart in your mouth. 7' is an amazing height to clear and shows the confidence that the horse must have in the rider.
Oops indeed. Glad to hear they were both okay. I don't think I would jump over a 7 ft wall not knowing what was on the other side.
Hope you are okay after your travels. Take it easy and get plenty of rest.
What a event. We watched it at home on the telly. When it got just too high...a few seemed to get it badly wrong...but this one ..well the photo says it all. Glad neither horse nor rider were hurt.
Great action shot! My mum always watched this on TV - she loved it. So pleased you managed to get there and that you enjoyed it. Now time to rest completely and get yourself fit again!
Great capture. Great timing. I am old enough to remember the harder, less forgiving walls in these competitions. I hope the fresh air helped you in your trying to get well.
Great action shot. I was happy to hear they make it safer for the horse and rider when the wall is missed. You must be feeling better, and hope that you are.
Superb action shot Chantal. The last time I was in London for the show jumping a horse broke it's leg and had to be put down. I could never go back even though it was handled very well.
Great shot Chantal. I remember watching David Broome and Harvey Smith doing this this when I was young, used to love it even though I wasn't much of a rider!!! Glad you managed to get there and hope the latest anti biotics have kicked in now and you are starting to feel better.
So sorry you are not feeling well yet......:-(( Glad to see your shots from the horse show, but I know it is hard to enjoy it completely when you are not feeling well, and the trip could not have been easy. I hope you get some rest this coming week.
The most important thing here is that no-one was hurt--particularly the horse. The human had a choice about whether to be doing this or not; the horse didn't. I'm so sorry you are still poorly Chantal, hope you can now rest up and get better.
