The teenager

Interestingly, after being challenged last week by Charles to do portraits, the teenager actually needs one tonight. Just home today (Tuesday) from a 10-day camping, hiking, biking trip to Maine with 24 other rising freshmen, he's pumped and ready to GO! Goodbye Mom and Dad, hello new life as a college student! Their group had a Facebook page set up earlier in the summer, but he's so completely against anything Facebook, Twitter, etc that he never joined the group. He has an FB page, but it was created under duress years ago, and he's never actually used it. He considered setting up a new one specifically for this trip, but was never quite motivated to do so. Home today, beyond happy with the trip, excited for the contacts and connections he made with the others, and definitely ready to set up an "adult" FB account and join the group. They'll have more meetings over the course of the fall semester, including a kayaking trip in September, and they all want to stay connected. So he needs a profile pic! Thanks to messing with dh's portrait the other day, and learning some editing techniques (I've taken his friend out of this pic), I've been able to create a photo he actually likes. I had him here with me to look at some of the different presets that could be applied. The original of this photo, tho nice and documentary for his Eagle project taken back in June, was a bit "too" nice for an upcoming college freshman! He didn't want too gritty or vintage ("That's overdone by now, Mom.") But we tweaked this particular preset, and he was quite happy with it.

Growing up.... it's harder on the mom...

Hi Ashley
I see you are pushing yourself to photograph people and you want to tell a story with your picture.
Since you have new little grand kids I challenge you to photograph a close up of your grandchildren, if they are not close by for this challenge then do a close up of a baby or toddler.
Get Pushed Week 157 - Monday July 27 to Sunday August 2

Very hard on Mom. I have 3 teenagers (18, 15 and almost 13). Great shot!

@homeschoolmom It occurred to me one day a few years ago that we (women) spend our lives dreaming of growing up and becoming moms, as if that would be our whole life, yet not thinking that our own children would be growing up imagining life when THEY were grown up .... because that's what they do - grow up. And then we've still got the rest of OUR lives to live, and it's not going to be as an everyday mom ... It was quite a revolutionary thought when I first thunk it! :-)

You have to take pictures of them - they look so good now before the wrinkles of age develop!

When my kids were younger (before digital) they always wanted their photos taken!! I was thee worst photographer and wasted so much film!!! Oh, and money on that film!! Now they are adults and I can take a decent photo, they do NOT want their photos taken!! Just can't win!!! If I do get them together, they become little kids and make faces and pinch each other, so I get NO decent photos!! LOL What's even worse, is the husband gets right into it with them! Ay, yi yi!!! You did a great job here and taking a person out is always fun for me!!
