Every other month we meet at the orchid club meeting. We are fortunate to have the Placer County chairman of the Orchid Society living in our community. He has many ways to get free and inexpensive organs and helps us nourish them. Each meeting there is a drawing for 4 orchids. I was picked for one of those this time. So now I have a jewel orchid with a spike just forming.
Congratulations on your new orchid! I'm sure we'll see it once it blooms. He looks very knowledgeable and entertaining with all those flowers in front of him.
An interesting group, I have an orchid that hasn't bloomed in two years, yet I water it the same every week and it's where's it's been ever since it bloomed. Maybe I need to repot it?
@randystreat You didn’t say what kind of orchid you have. The most common in the stores are Phalaenopsis. Dave says to get Phalaenopsis to rebloom, they need to be a little cooler at night. He recommends putting the plant right up next to a window at night. That might encourage it to bloom. (Refrigerators are too cold).
@shutterbug49 Thanks. That's probably the type. It's in the sunroom which is a bit cooler at night. Perhaps I need to move a bit closer to the window and maybe to a part that more shady in the late afternoon. I'll try that.
