@lynnb - Sassafras leaves come in two shapes. The one looks like a bird's foot like you say and the other looks like a mitten. If you look at the lower right corner you will see a yellow mitten shaped leaf.
@vickisfotos - It was getting late in the day and the sun dropped behind other trees. But I liked how the lack of light brought out the colors.
@chrissieh - Thank you Chrissie!! I appreciate you kind comments!!
@juleswoome -Thank you Julie!! I hope your Autumn is as colorful as ours has been!!
@mtngal - Thank you very much Harriet!! What the colors portray is up to the eye of the beholder.
@kwind - Thank you very much Kim!! I'm glad you like it!
@natr - According to a map I found showing the range of sassafras trees, they grow mainly along the eastern coast of the US from New York down to the very northern tip of Florida and as far west as to parts of Michigan in the north and expands out to the eastern tip of Texas in the south. http://www.na.fs.fed.us/pubs/silvics_manual/volume_2/sassafras/albidum.htm
@judithdeacon - Thank you Judith for you kind words!! Since Fall's colors are short lived I guess it could be considered a harbinger of winter. I feel that it is up to how you want to perceive the event.
@myautofocuslife - Thank you very much Livia!! I'm glad you like the photo and colors!!
