Chicory

I got finished with my walk today and decided to practice a new technique that I found on You Tube for focusing when doing macro shots. I used my 36mm tube and my new 70-200mm lens with the 2x extender. I set the camera on my tripod and turned on live view. I then turned off auto focus and then I zoomed in, not with the lens, but with the zoom live view button to 5x or 10x and manually focus the camera. This is the result. Since I was using an extension tube which causes you to lose DoF, I upped the f stop to f/22. I could have gone to f/65, but it was windy and that was going to keep the shutter open for to long.
Of course it is best to view large. To make it easy:

Gorgeous flower. I like to use live view for focusing of stationary objects. With your technique mentioned above it also helps to use shutter release cable

Super close up! I'm not familiar with this technique, but it makes for a wonderful macro!

@kerristephens - Thank you Kerri!

@mittens - You are very kind Marylin! Thank you!

@mtpagano - Thank you Michelle!

@bardejov -Thank you so much! You are absolutely right! I do use a remote shutter release and forgot to include that! Thank you for reminding me!

@calm - Thank you very much Cathy! I wish I had notices the petals on the right that were closer to the camera or I would have focused on them rather then the stamens and everything would have been in focus!

@sassik - Thank you Sassik!

@skipt07 Would be nice totally focused, but I think the blur in the foreground adds nice depth to this photo! Just my opinion...

@skipt07 I have been experimenting lately with extension tubes and find them a little trick to work with, but through perseverance am now getting some reasonable results

@04haze - I have found at times, that it is easier to focus zooming the lens rather then using the focusing ring. Of course that only works when using a zoom lens. I can see that you are getting some great results!
