"Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come." ~ Terrance Mann
No, this isn't Iowa. But this is my field of dreams; that we might return to when, "all that once was good. . . could be again."
@maggiemae - Oh I know that the likelihood of man making it happen is slim. But God did make this promise; "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." The question is, how much do we want it?
My all time favourite film! As soon as I saw your picture I knew what it represented. I love the fact that you have taken the trouble to post the whole quote....if only people would listen and understand. A great big Fav!!
@kimdavis - Only once Kim and only by chance. I was channel surfing one afternoon and it had just started. I saw Kevin Costner and that is what caught my attention. As I watched it, it made no sense at first. In some ways it was like watching a Twilight Zone episode.
@Cherrill - I am a two fingered typist Cherrill so I found the quote on IMDb, copied it and pasted it. But don't tell anybody. ツ
@danette - I loved baseball when I was younger. I was, and maybe still am to some degree, a Yankee fan. My hero was Mickey Mantle. I just found a biography of sorts about him. The author said, and this is sad, that all the years that Mantle played he didn't make what some of these young players make in once season today.
@luvmynynix@eyesmile@soboy5@thirdjoe@bonsai - I was driving past this corn field and the bright blue sky and clouds made me pull off and take a few shots. As I was thinking of a title for it as I post processed it the first thing that came to mind was, "If you build it, they will come." I then I changed to, Field of Dreams". I saw the cover photo with Kevin Costner on the IMDb website so I added some foreground to it in PS so I could create the baseball diamond like on the cover minus Costner and the huge moon.
