This is a photo of the family's main dining room decorated for Christmas. I was intrigued by the figure in front of the center window as it reminded me of Peter Pan.
I thought I would post another photo from our trip to Oglebay Park because of what I thought was a very interesting story told by our tour guide. When Earl Oglebay purchased the land it was considered used. The land once belonged to another owner who farmed it to the point that nothing would grow any longer.
Earl Oglebay and his wife toured Europe and Asia and while there he learned from the farmers the practice of spreading manure on the fields to restore the nutrients to the dirt. When he returned to America he put it into practice on his farm as saw that worked. He went to different colleges and passed on the information which at first was rejected as they saw Oglebay as a city slicker who knew nothing of agriculture. But when they saw the results on Oglebay's own farm it soon became a part of the agriculture curriculum which is still in practice today.
What opulence with all its glitter , lights and sways of curtains , I am intrigued as what the figure in the window represents . and an interesting story Skip !
@maggiemae - It is kind of ironic in that my wife and I recently watched the complete Downton Abbey series and we are now hooked on, "The Crown". To see how the rich live is unbelievable. We could not imagine ourselves sitting at the dinner table every meal wearing our best and the painstaking preparation of the help in setting the table for higher occasions. Even down to measuring the placement of each setting at the table.
