Well that's not entirely true. While the corn it still attacked to the stalk, the stalks were cut by our Amish neighbor and given to my wife to use as a harvest decoration. I was walking the dog and the rows of deep yellow kernels and the colors and textures of the leaves caught my eye.
@maggiemae - You wouldn't want to eat field corn. It is pretty tough even when it's harvested earlier than this. Field corn is grown to be ground up for livestock fodder, ethanol, cereal and processed food products. It's nothing like sweet corn.
How lovely. My friends in Austria always have corn outside their door through Winter alongside brightly coloured heathers in tubs. It's a colourful and striking thing to do during the darker months of the year, I really like it.
