i was alerted by one of the ladies from my apartment building that today was the launch of the 2017 caribana (that used to be the old name) festivities or "caribbean carnival" which is now the official name. it is one of toronto's tourism gem, and thousands of people from down south flock to the city to take in the festivities and the finale of which is the grande parade where these young girls take part donning ridiculously ostentatious and sexy costumes. if there is one festival the animal rights people should protest is this, as the amount of feathers, big and large and huge and even small are used for costumes like this one. the costumes today are just a glimpse of what is to come in early august when the grande parade happens. most are worn with small wheels and cost thousands of dollars to make. this outfit would probably cost a bit less, i'd peg it at three thousand dollars. of course there are other girls who wore skimpier costumes than her. some are well endowed, others less, some others still are over endowed and they are the ones that left very little to anyone's imagination.
my one lament is that i could only take a photo at this time (after lunch) when the sun was directly overhead and the lighting on the faces wasn't very appealing. but with a smile like that, so what?
and what do you know, i found out just today that the new weekly theme is feathers!
Thats such a happy portrait. Did you know our Royal Society for Protection of Birds came about solely because Victorian ladies' fashion of feathered hats and bags and boas was killing the birds off?
@domenicododaro - no, it's very badly taken. excusable to have the top of the head dress to be cut off a bit, but the bottom should've included the hands on her waist and the belly button. too much rushing, so many beauties to shoot, and i was distracted by an over-endowed woman (over endowed everywhere in her body especially in the middle - there, i hope you weren't eating when you picture that description hehehe!) who had only some rhinestoned tapes covering the... the... oh, my goodness! i'm ruined! ruined, i say!
suffice it to say, i'm still deciding whether i should post that photo, although i am thankful my Nikon's inner mirrors and lenses didn't self-explode! :-D
