'tis the eve of hallows and off to a coven all witches must go.
back in the old country, we did not use to observe hallow e'en. but the day before november 1st is supposed to be a busy day as we clean up the tombs of our dearly departed in preparation of all souls' day or all saints' day. 'tis believed that at midnight on november 1st, the souls of the dead come and visit us on earth, perhaps to finish off some unfinished business, or just to visit and see-to their loved ones who are left on earth. in our culture/tradition, we burn candles all day long until midnight. i remember it as a joyous occasion 🤣 because we get to wear sort of nice clothes (that's my mother's tradition for us, because she didn't want our relatives on both sides to think that just because we were desperately destitute, at least us her children were clean, and cleanliness is next to Godliness, eh). we get to go and visit from tomb to tomb of neighbours' and relatives' dearly departed, and we get to buy sweets to tide us over while we kept vigil over my grandmother's and sister's grave. our teachers at school then would expect us to bring balls of hardened candle drips which the school janitor would then make into floor wax which would save the school this expense for at least half the year.
when i left the old country, i would light a candle for my mother's soul and others but tonight i am not even going to do that as i'm sure my mother would understand. twice this month i forgot my pot on the stove and it's only because my sense of smell is rather acute that averted a possible fire. plus those lace curtains are hard to find should they burn. i don't think i even have a match to light a candle.
itiofd, the full moon is a no-show tonight so this almost full moon was from a few months ago. this is a composite of five images (the blurring of some parts was intentional). the broom and hat were borrowed from google images with thanks. the almost full moon was from july, the buildings taken on the same evening. my twin sister who is a real ugly mean witch of course had to show up and tell everyone who cared that she's me, the little *itch. yes, that's what she is, an itch. i better scratch so she would disappear!
i'll tag this, too, for 'creepy' prompt for week 44 of the 52-week challenge.
Well, was it you who waved at me or your evil twin?? Hmmm...
Terrific composite, such a fun holiday image--well done!! Super love your traditions as well ;-)
Hehe.. nice composite and a nice insight into you. Thank you for sharing.
Do you know why i bought a vacuum cleaner? Because when i lay my hand on a broom i instinctively ride it.
The kids around me used to call me The Witch or The Wasp when i was a kid. I suppose there must be a grain of truth.
I just embrace my inner (w/b)itch.
