hop-along bob had to have a pose with the bamboo. they were a hot pair, he said, because he's yellow and blue and the bamboo is green which is the colour you get when you mix blue and yellow. yes, that is true. but no, you don't make a good pair.

the brushes explained
when i started to paint in october 2020, i was only using a dollar-store-bought set of small paint brushes which to my consternation would shed its bristles on the canvas. my sister, the artist, gave me advice on what to look for in a good brush and to try it on so i could determine if it's the right brush for me. so every time the art stores had a sale, i would visit their brush section and i would always end up with at least 5 kinds of brushes.
i find that when i'm working on a large canvas, i'm more comfortable with long handled paint brushes. when detailing, i always have to sit by the window with lots of light because my eyes are bad, and i have to use short handled brushes. almost all the brushes in the jars in my photo yesterday have been used. i particularly like the ones with green handles and i find i use them more than the other brushes.
and my one strict rule is that i have to wash my brushes in between use so that the bristles don't absorb the colours of the paint (plus i hate dirty hands and fingernails 😜). and because of that, i know i'm shortening the life of the brushes so when i buy them i always buy two of each.
Boy do i understand your brush concern. Well, if you don't ruin a brush, how would you justify buying another?
Thanks for the explanation about your brushes. It makes perfect sense to me.
