when my sister and i were walking around downtown on sunday, she pointed this Royal Canadian Military Institute building's façade. she said i could take a photo and insert my self-portrait on the balcony. i had to cross university avenue, which is a three-lane roadway each way with a wide garden between them. there was a guy who was standing by the fire hydrant, he was wearing all black and a large red backpack that has the logo of 'skip the dishes' in big letters. skip the dishes is one of several food delivery service that has seen a lot of business during this pandemic. in fact, i have an account with them as i've used them a few times in the summer.
while i was sizing up the scenery the guy, who was so engrossed in his mobile, stood out like a sore thumb in the shot. so yelled "skip!" amidst the passing traffic. the guy slowly turned around and when he saw me across the street, i motioned for him to move. he looked at me, then looked in front of him before he slowly moved to his left. i shouted "some more!" and he did, after which i then took a few shots, waited for traffic to clear, then crossed back. i found my sister hunched behind a post laughing her heart out. "was that you who shouted skip?" she asked and continued to laugh. i said well, he's in the way and that red skip backpack really took away from the shot so i had to ask him to move. i'm such a badass!
