tell me not, in mournful numbers,
life is but an empty dream!
for the soul is dead that slumbers,
and things are not what they seem.
art is long, and Time is fleeting,
and our hearts, though stout and brave,
still, like muffled drums, are beating
funeral marches to the grave.
lives of great men all remind us
we can make our lives sublime,
and, departing, leave behind us
footprints on the sands of time.
- excerpts from "a psalm of life", henry wadsworth longfellow
this is a one-minute timer that i use with my scrabble game, which the ex hated, and later on he put away. i found it in the box along with my third set of china which he gave me a long time ago. funny, he forgot about that set of china. when we broke up he asked for me to give back all the major gifts he gave me and i did, but he never gave me back the more expensive gifts i gave him, but then i didn't ask for them. (that's because i'm a decent person.) china's going to the church for our spring sale fundraising, as i don't have any use for them anyway.
i'm pretty sure i can find other uses for this timer aside from photography.
I like this image. I would never have guessed it to be a small timer.
I can't see an hourglass without thinking of the opening to a long running US soap opera, Days of Our Lives: “Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.”
Love the photo and the poetry. And here’s to being a decent person! The benefits of that aren’t measured in money. That’s a fancy little timer...you don’t flip the whole thing, just the part with the sand.
