as the train i was on this morning neared the union station where i had to get off to get to the office, two young police officers made a walkabout inside the train and was being filmed by a videographer. they were greeting passengers who mostly had the audacity to ignore them. i thought it was quite nice of them as normally, they just let people be unless they (people) aren't behaving.
they approached a homeless man seating behind the forward facing man who was just ignoring what was happening right behind him. the police officers were trying to wake him up. that was when i snapped this photo. in about 5 seconds the train came to a complete stop and i got off (i always position myself on the train so that when we get to the union station, the door opens right at the elevator). i got inside the lift hoping no one else would share the elevator with me. no such luck though.
i heard the thud of something heavy and i looked down at the elevator doors; it turned out it was the homeless man's pizza slices. not realizing it was the homeless man who dropped it as he entered the elevator, i told him 'are you just going to leave that there?' and gave him my most cross look, one of the police officers told the man to pick it up. the man was rather belligerent and was swearing to high heavens. when i realized it was the homeless man, i made a move to step out realizing that police business was going on, but one of the officers said it's okay, that he was coming with me to make sure i was safe. the other police officer came in, too, along with the videographer. as the lift was going up, the man was swearing again. i shushed him and told him to watch his language. he looked at me, was about to say something, then dropped his head rather meekly. when the elevator door opened again, i stepped out. the officer joked i should consider doing police work. i laughed at him.
then as i was making my way through the pathway to the office, it occurred to me that it might have been a bad move by the police officers to have let me remain. the elevator was quite crowded with three big men (the two police officers and the videographer) with the homeless man and myself. if the homeless man got agitated by the small space and became violent, i'd have been trapped there with them, although i am well covered and protected by the officer nearest me. but the man could've had a knife or something.
but it was something one didn't experience everyday and things turned out fine anyway.
but one thing is evident, our fine men in blue (or black) are veritable eye candies!
