it was the anti-war slogan of the generation of the american counter-culture of the 1960's. several high profile protesters claimed to have originally coined the phrase. however it was used more popularly by those who were involved in the protest against the vietnam war.

I remember the slogan well. The message was not heeded so bears repeating.
