à la fred herzog

i was downtown yesterday to meet my son for lunch but as i was early i walked down to the art store to get a gun - a glue gun😂, that is. i was taking photos of a really large mural when i heard a loud tire screech then some foul words exchanged. i turned around and saw this old advertisement on a wall, typical of the 50's and 60's as toronto was still sparsely populated then. the building is designated as "heritage" - at least parts of it - and the advertising sign restored.

this reminded me of fred herzog's "foot of main" https://www.equinoxgallery.com/exhibitions/fred-herzogeast-vancouver/#work_gallery_b42a5b7b3f300c44566331c3c662cb9c

just playing. i should remember to stalk the side streets of the financial district as they do have fascinating scenes that i am just now discovering.
I thought the wording on that advertising hoarding was a bit old fashioned. Cool that it has been restored.

Looks so vibrant for what are essentially very neutral colours.

Very well done! I like the juxtaposition of the graffiti with the very old sign. You have a great eye, and a great memory to be able to make that connection.

I love the restored sign and the brick work on the building. I wonder how it would look if you cropped the bottom a bit to remove the red curb.

Great layers of colors from light to dark. The sign pops up and tells a long gone era.

we have a few old signs like that around Bedford. It is the smartest feature of your photo.

It's nice to live in an older city/town where the people don't feel the need to get rid of the past.
