The dams, reservoirs and 73 mile aqueduct of the Elan Valley were built a hundred years ago to supply desperately needed clean water to Birmingham. At the visitor centre there is a child friendly exhibition which explains the history. Children as young as Charlotte and Freya would have worked on the construction of the dams and there's a dressing up box of the kinds of clothes the children would have worn. I don't think the children working on the dams would have looked as happy as Charlotte and Freya do.
