Fern spores by suzanne234

Fern spores

A much more recognisable image of the fern spores compared to yesterday’s close up.

Before I got my new old camera and started this project, I hadn’t really looked close at the fern fronds or give much thought to the purpose of the little brown spots found on them. I never even noticed the little warty jazz hands waving enthusiastically at me, how could I miss those!

I took myself off to the ‘net to try and educate myself on the little brown spots, I got a little lost in all the terminology, but I did find this pretty cool video of the spore shooting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3LmCBQvtI4

Thank you all so much for your interest, comments and favs on yesterday’s image, they are very much appreciated.
they still look like sugar puffs

You show the spores well in this. I tried a close up at the weekend but thought it didn't make much of a picture. much better to have more of the plant. Fascinating little video clip you found. It is true, with a camera in hand, we learn to use our eyes so much more effectively.
