Really out of my close up comfort zone on this one. I’m surrounded by lovely countryside but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to capture it.
Busy day at work today, I'll try again tomorrow when hopefully the weather is brighter and I get struck by inspiration
A great location and beautiful texture in the trees. If I might offer a suggestion, try and avoid 2 strong items of interest in the foreground. A slight swing of the camera to the left would give the picture greater depth and impact I feel.
Woods are always difficult because by their very nature the light isn't good in amongst the trees. The only time I seem to capture anything effective is when the sun is low and golden and filtering through the trees. Or I sometimes get up close to a tree and point the camera up to capture an interesting view up the trunk. Other than that I look at close-ups of bark, leaves or interesting branch formations, or other plants, fungi and creatures in the undergrowth.
Suzanne, you've been besieged by advice, so I won't add anything, except that Julienne @julienne1 seems to have put it well. As others have said, great to experiment and try new stuff, that's what 365 is all about.
Hi Suzanne love this shot feel like am there when looking at it.:) I no what you mean as I get a little lost in looking for a focal point, in what to take the shot off...Julienne ideas sound good and helpful.. for ideas and inspiration for you. your shot as it is , is lovely as I like the tree formation colours and tones and textures you have captured... Fav from me :)
I think woods are better with sun light. But, this a good wood capture. I know what you mean about not having a focal point, I struggle with that a bit too. Also, I think our area, with it being quite flat, landscapes tend to be a bit difficult too!
Another day, you will probably take a similar subject & be happy with it. Think we all have days when the magic just doesn't happen.
I have the same problem capturing the landscape where I am in Bedfordshire which is so flat. Your title made me smile. But actually, the trees, with their different shades, all lined up, make a fine composition.

Thank you so very much for your very kind comments, tips and advice, they are very much appreciated.
