St. Austell town centre is a bit odd. A few years back they spent millions of pounds on a huge redevelopment project, which transformed the shopping centre from an ugly 60's inspired concrete monstrosity, into a a very similar 60's inspired concrete monstrosity. To be honest, a quick lick of paint would have achieved the same thing. This left us all wondering, "where did all that money go?"

In the process they managed to force out most of the interesting small independent traders and we are now left with huge empty units that were meant to attract the big names like M&S and Primark, who never came. All we got was Poundland and Poundstretcher.

It is a sad empty poorly used place these days, but every now and then some one makes an effort by painting an interesting mural to brighten the place up.
typical!
