First a huge thank you for your comments on my night shot yesterday which has appeared on PP today! I love sharing my city's beautiful night scenes so appreciate your response.
I made this collage from a series of photos taken yesterday morning at the 22nd annual ceremony at the Art Institute of Chicago. The event started at the Michigan Avenue entrance with music on the steps by the Cuerdas Clasicas ensemble. One lion (who could be mistaken for a sunflower if it weren't for it's long tail) wandered among the crowd, playing with the kids and offering adults the chance to join the AIC. The other two lions were hidden beneath the red cloths. Crowds gathered and the excitement of the wreathing rose. As the concert ended, each lion's team of handlers went to their stations and the crowd began the countdown...5...4...3...2...1. Ta-da! The lions were revealed, everyone cheered (on the right hand side) and groaned (on the left hand side) because when the handlers removed the left lion's cloth, they pulled off the wreath!! A scaffold was brought out, the poor guys climbed up, replaced the wreath to cheers, and then a huge lion's roar rang out over the loudspeaker. We Chicagoans are thrilled by the little things that bring joy to life!
In my extras album, my shot actually taken today -- the sun was a huge ball in a clear sky as it set - http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-11-30
Handsome statues! You obviously had your camera aimed at the one on the right! Nice collage- it really tells the story. And the sky looks great in each shot!
@olivetreeann Yep -- I was south looking north, so on the right hand side's lion. It ended up being the right choice as (a) I had no people in front of me and (b) the lion actually ended up with a wreath. But I think photographing the north lion's experience might have been more humorous -- I couldn't get close enough to capture all the to-do over getting it's wreath back on, so had to settle for the finished, dignified product.
Fantastic collage and I love how it tells the story which goes with it. What a brilliant place to live - I love seeing Chicago thought you photos - buzzy and magnificently vibrant place . Knowing that have a demanding week I'd like you to take a photo that represents the emotion of the week. Hope that's okay.
Wonderful collage telling us the story so well. I especially like the shot of the crowd and the outline of the lion under its sheath with that beautiful sky in the background.
Wonderfully presented! The photos tell the story to perfection. This is so lovely and I have a whole bunch of kid in me, I'd of been excited too for the revealing of the lions. Kind of magical... I love that!
@zenna You're right -- the whole atmosphere during the wreathing brought out the kids in all of us in the crowd. I think that everyone participated in the countdown.
Great collage! I love Chicago! I'm looking forward to a one day visit this month and plan to enjoy lunch in the Walnut room and peruse the Christkindl Market!
@lisabell What great fun!! Definitely some good traditions to be hitting here. I'm assuming you'll bring your camera and we'll get to see a result or two?
Great collage! I was in Chicago to visit my son over the Thanksgiving weekend ... unfortunately, not much chance for photography, so I'll have to come back. Brrrrr. Maybe in the spring or summer....
