Jumping Cholla Enjoys the Sunshine by taffy

Jumping Cholla Enjoys the Sunshine

Despite three months of trying, I still find landscapes to be very difficult. Where to focus, DofF, interesting foregrounds, contrast in fore- and backgrounds. The beauty of the area makes me keep trying. This was taken on a hike through one of the trails at Catalina State Park.
The light in this is fabulous, and the teddy bear cactus looks quite beautiful!

I thought teddy bears were soft and cuddly!! I guess this looks as though it should be!

I love this!

At camera club we had a chap talking to us, he checks weather, clouds, goes out in all weathers and stands for hours waiting for the right light. Decided I'm far too lazy and like my creature comforts to be a true landscape photographer

His work is amazing though!! https://www.jacklodge.co.uk/

I love this comp, but the clouds look a bit unnatureal.

@stimuloog I think it’s because it was so blown out to the right. It definitely was surreal in person too.

May I ask to be forgiven before suggesting a correction to The Professor? This is known as "Jumping" Cholla, and not Teddy Bear Cactus. TBC grows lower to the ground, and yes, has stickers as dense as a bear's coat. I can attest to this as I recall an night I was with friends out in the desert. Walking back to the car, I didn't have a light and walked into a TBC that went through my canvas shoes and was stuck in my foot! I couldn't take the shoe off, and we had to find a way to extricate the cactus from my foot! That's about the sum of my memory on that occasion, but always a warning about "perils in the desert!"

@Weezilou You are absolutely right! Scary things -- sad to read you were 'attacked' by one! My mistake -- thanks...I'm fixing it now!
