Get pushed challenges are wonderful and I'm enjoying participating again after a long break. This shot came about starting with Kelley's @meemakelley challenge to me to do something with "a photo showing movement." She left it pretty open as to what movement that might be. Then, I thought about a photo Carolyn @ckwiseman had posted showing ripples in the lake - http://365project.org/ckwiseman/365/2015-07-20
And then rocks have been on my mind as that's the mundane challenge this week, as were reflections because of the MFPIAC theme this week. Last night's sunset was the perfect chance...so here is my movement shot -- tossing a rock into a perfectly calm lake that reflected the sunset and clouds overhead, as the sun was setting over High Island. Capturing said ripple in context and watching the movement I started as the ripples expanded.
As an aside, a friend came down to the beach to help me create some water crowns, doing the stone tossing while I snapped away, and they were amazing, I'm sure. And not one of the files could be read. I think my camera battery was too low and I was taking them so quickly, it didn't record a single one. Heartbroken because of course, in my mind, those were the perfect crowns I've been seeking for years. And it's not like we get these perfect conditions -- even the bugs were gone. BUMMED!
Boy - you described the conditions perfectly - what a lovely sunset and calm water (hard to get that combination) and then to come up with the idea of the rock tossing. Way impressed. It turned out so well! Fav
Great job, to combine all of these ideas in one shot. Simply gorgeous. Love the circular ripples and the amazing sunset reflections. Of course, a fav. :)
@rosiekerr I think it's a faulty card. It seems fine otherwise (camera) when I used a different one. It's so annoying as these totally calm days are incredibly rare, and then to have a friend here to help at the same time, even more rare! Thanks for the fav!
I was wondering if you had help getting this one - great image: stunning colours, sun perfectly on the horizon, and the ripples really makes it different from just another sunset. Clever thinking. And good aiming to get the ripples in the right spot! As for the lost water crowns: you'll just have to go back!
@ericdibosco No help on this one -- she hadn't come down to the beach yet -- which is why this one didn't have the crown. And then the first ones we did, I had the ISO too low so those were blurry, and of course those are the ones that came out. The ones I lost were of the high shutter speed, well captured variety -- and couldn't have done that without help. Oh well...today all the normal wave action is back and will be for the foreseeable future.
Wonderfully minimalist, Taffy. Those ripples make just enough foreground interest, very nicely judged. I could lose myself in this. Fav.
Do feel for you about the lost water crowns - the once-in-a-lifetime ones that get away make you want to weep.
@stevecameras Thanks for the visits and lovely comments tonight. I always appreciate it when you view my album, even occasionally! And yes, I tossed a stone up in the air and then had the camera ready when it hit and began rippling out.
Amazing picture.....everything about it is perfect!! The reflections, the ripple in the water, the way the horizon is way up high, the clarity of the water, that is one for the wall!! FAV, of course!!
This is wonderful Taffy! Well done on the ripple which makes for perfect foreground interest! Beautiful light and colours! Such a shame about the lost crowns! That's something on my bucket list - tried many times without success! I might have another go now I have my new camera with more frames per second! Fav!
Wow stunning sunset and reflections!
The colours are amazing and great idea with the stone ripples!
I also love it when the lake is so calm like this, which isn't often!
Good luck next time with the water crowns.

Did you throw a rock in to create the ripple?
