Yet another image from the wonderful trip to the Smoky Mountains National Park. On our last day, we met up with Bruce, who we know through former active 365er @rosswalker and who was in Tennessee for a course that was what originally got us thinking about this trip. We decided to drive through Cades Cove together -- everyone had told us it was a not-to-be-missed area of the park, filled with wildlife. Our experience was a little different, but we had a great time hanging out as we crept along, covering 5 miles in 3 hours and seeing a total of: 4 deer, 1 horse, and if I remember right, maybe a turkey. We heard from a range that we missed a bear and that was what had caused the traffic tie-up. Instead, we saw several beautiful lone trees, and we found that we could stop by the side of the road, photograph to our heart's content, and maybe only be 4 or 5 cars behind where we were before stopping!
Here's Junko's tree: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2015-11-03
And Daryl's will go here: http://365project.org/darylo/album4/2015-11-04 http://365project.org/darylo/album4/2015-11-03
My shot from today is a very uninteresting lily, practicing focus stacking once more, using a macro lens / closeup - in my extras album: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2015-11-03
Thanks for putting my shots from yesterday on PP -- it was exciting to see them there, and to know you enjoyed follow Junko, Daryl, and me on our adventures!
It's so interesting to me to see how taking a few steps one way or the other of a single tree can change how it's portrayed. I ended up going b&w because my foreground wasn't interesting and I didn't plan the background shape. I like how your tree has a "shape" to sit on.
What a shame about the wildlife! Mind you I wouldn't want to come face to face with a bear. All those cars sounds like when we were driving through the Rockies and a coach up ahead would radio to our coach if they saw any wildlife. All the coaches and cars would rush to that spot. We never saw any wildlife the whole holiday! I love how this looks like a different tree to Junko's tree just by moving a little. Great image!
Oh, my we saw turkey every time at the ends of the New Found Gap road and of course I saw the elk. We saw deer in other areas on our trip but mostly at dusk. Deer come out at dusk and dawn.
@joansmor Just a week or so difference and huge difference in wildlife. We were there at dusk, so should have been prime time. Oh well...we had a great time anyway.
Bummer about the "no wildlife," but I am laughing about cars moving slow enough for you to jump out and take shots! Your story belies the sense of isolation in this shot, though. Beautiful.
Awesome tree.
