Winter Beach Waits for Summer's Arrival by taffy

Winter Beach Waits for Summer's Arrival

Chicago sits right on Lake Michigan. In the summer the beach areas are filled with people swimming, having picnics, playing volley ball, and just hanging out. In the winter, it's a very different scene.
Taken as I walked to meet up with @ukandie1 who was walking south as I headed north.
Thanks for your supportive comments on my two panos - very much appreciated! They were taken from the observation deck of the tallest building in this image, looking south toward the downtown area.
This amazes! Stunning and thank you for sharing!

What a great b&w Taffy. Those clouds were made to measure for you. Looks like plenty of folks walk on the beach in winter. This is a most interesting view of your city, and one I haven't seen before. Definitely a fav for me.

Superb composition, depth

Love this with your wide angle lens! Love the lines of the clouds running parallel with the shoreline.

What a great view this gives! Lovely b&w - The vision of the difference between now and summer - I'll take now! Love that sky. Fav

Makes Chicago look so calm Fav

Somehow you seem to know how much of everything to incorporate in the one scene! It works beautifully! fav

A terrific shot. It is amazing how the city jumps up so quickly from the beach.
March 25th, 2016
Love the contrast of the shot.
March 25th, 2016
Beautiful capture. I checked your settings and thought this would have been a longer exposure than it was. Nicely done.

Great Perspective !!!

Now I'm starting to grasp why so many of you 365 res love wide angle lenses. This is a wonderful contrasting shot of beach in the middle of the city. I was at that very beach 20yrs ago and I loved the John Hancock building. Fav and a lovely b&w.

Great wide view! The way you composed this shot, the sky scrapers appear to be rising right out of the sand. Are they actually that close?
March 25th, 2016
I love this different view of the skyline
March 25th, 2016
@redy4et They are close, but there is a 6 lane drive (Lake Shore Drive) that parallels the water, and in some cases there is parkland as well. So, not right on the beach like a resort hotel or anything. And further south, the buildings have Millennium and Grant Park between city buildings and lake.

Love this point of view. It's so interesting to see an image that portrays calm and stillness because of the beach area being in comparison to downtown which is obviously so busy.

Terrific capture :)
March 25th, 2016
It looks so deserted and stark, the tall building and processing makes me feel like its something out of the Superman movies, Gotham City. Like Lynne @lynne5477 because of the clouds streaking I thought it was a longer exposure.
March 25th, 2016
It looks like the city is right on the beach. Lovely scene
March 25th, 2016
A fabulous image, it has a surreal appearance :)
March 25th, 2016
Love how the city stands as a backdrop for the beach and the water. Fav

This works so well in B&W but I'm intrigued by the sky: those milky clouds look like a long exposure but the rest of the image bot as confirmed by the Exif data. Dare I ask if you 'shopped the sky in or is it indeed a natural phenomenon?
March 25th, 2016
Love the clouds in this, very well done.
March 25th, 2016
Gorgeous with the long exposure and that sky!
March 25th, 2016
Wonderful pov and composition

Stunning sky Taffy

Composition is perfect. Love the shot.

stunning
March 25th, 2016
You get to walk along a beach and take this fabulous shot and meet Andie @ukandie1. Sigh
March 25th, 2016
wonderful capture ...
March 25th, 2016
@vignouse Thanks for asking -- a natural sky with long filmy clouds. I brought down highlights and raised contrast using LR graduated filter. And I had to lighten the buildings a bit as that made them too dark.
March 25th, 2016
Great to see a shot of the city from a different perspective, especially one with such a dramatic sky.
March 25th, 2016
This is beautiful.

A wonderful cold and haunting scene -- great composition , and editing !
March 25th, 2016
Super wide angle view, and your edit has bought out all the elements together wonderfully. I've loaned a 14mm lens for the weekend, I'm enjoying the challenge of it!
March 25th, 2016
Great POV - Fav
March 25th, 2016
A very dramatic image, the clouds are quite foreboding.
March 25th, 2016
@jackie8 I really like the shot you posted! It's fun to use, isn't it? And you used the low POV that seems to work well with it.
March 25th, 2016
SUPER drama...Love that sky.
March 26th, 2016
love how the clouds appear to be moving in line with the lake...
March 26th, 2016
Incredible picture and perspective. Congratulations on making the Trending Page and the PP. Well deserved.
March 26th, 2016
What a fabulous pic! The city looks like it comes straight off the beach! Love the atmosphere you have created with your processing! This series of shots is making me so excited! Fav!
March 26th, 2016
Wow, wonderful shot!
