We were walking the beach last night at the golden hour and this pelican flew right in front of where I was photographing. Fortunately I had the shutter on continuous. The images were too dark since I'd set the camera up for non-flying things (i.e., shots into the sun), but I was able to bring up exposure in LR and didn't lose the images. I found it interesting to see its different positions in flight in under a minute's time.
Thank you for your visits, comments, and favs! For those curious, last night's image of the solitary figure had this scene just outside the frame: http://365project.org/taffy/special-photos/2016-12-23
Good job, catching all this in low-light (and saving them in LR). I find it amazing that such a large, gangly bird can fly so gracefully. Your pictures prove it!
I just love watching big ungainly looking birds launch themselves into flight and being instantly transformed into graceful sky forms - you've captured exactly that here.
Wow these shots are awesome considering you weren't prepared and in low light, thank goodness for lightroom, I love using LR and have some much more to learn!
What a fabulous series of shots of this beautifully ugly bird!! LOL!! Well done on bringing the expose up on them. Great set showing all his wing positions!! Huge Fav!! Now that's another bird I haven't seen out of a zoo - I feel a trip coming on!!
@pamknowler For pelicans, the coasts really can't be beat -- when we were on Amelia Island in Florida, or the southern California coastal piers, it was so much fun photographing them up close.
