We can hear loons here and there across Beaver Island and we know that a family lives on Barney's Lake, but I hadn't been able to spot any until yesterday. They were too far out to photograph then, but today a neighbor called to say they were floating nearer the shore. I headed out immediately and was rewarded with almost a half hour of watching mom, dad, and baby float, dive for food, and nap (the baby). I loved this shot with baby Loon looking at her mom. I've tried for years to take a photo of a loon so was really excited for the opportunity today.
Thanks for your comments and favs on yesterday's frog! The waders really gave me a new POV for photographing them.
Oh, how sweet. They sit so low in the water! Lovely, how baby is looking at momma. You caught mom's red eye so clearly. So excited for your opportunity today. :)
@onewing Thanks! The baby swam right next to the mom, or else somehow seemed to be resting on her for awhile without actually climbing up. It was odd, but fascinating to watch.
I love how the baby is staying so close to mum.
