Catching up a bit. I took so many images with the Z7 I'm going to be processing for awhile. It was a great camera to work with and I was a little sad my rental week ended. Taken in Chicago, at Lincoln Park, just south of the Zoo.
I noticed you had rented the Z7. I'm holding back until maybe updated firmware or version 2. I really like my D850 and D810. Reviews on using the adapter for lenses are mixed and I have a large array of lenses which I really like.
@mikegifford I actually just ordered the Z7. I did like it a lot and found no degradation when using the adaptor, whether focus, speed, etc. Like you, I have too many lenses to have to start over again. I ordered it with the 24-70 kit lens, which is only an f4, but I figured that will be my walk around, lightweight system. I'm not thrilled with the memory card they are using just because of inconvenience, nor not having a second SD card slot. But overall, I did think it was a great handling camera body. The only lens I couldn't get it to talk with was my Tamron 150-morning 600, so that was frustrating, but I'm keeping my 610 and will just use the long lens with my current camera body. I'll let you know (or feel free to ask) what I think once I've been using it -- it's supposed to arrive on Friday.
@mikegifford ignore that 150-morning thing (I find this MacBook pro keyboard to be incredibly erratic as it pops in weird symbols and does bizarre auto-corrects).
@taffy Thanks for the update. I've been thinking along the same lines...use the Z7 for a lightweight walk around camera with the 24-70. I love the D850 and D810, but the D850 and the 200-500 zoom along with the extra battery for 9fps is heavy. I just ordered the new 500mm prime PF lens after I read Steve Perry's review on Backcountry Gallery.
@mikegifford :-) I'm feeling a bit of lens envy! I've read a few reviews that make the 500 sound like an ideal lens. The Z7 arrives tomorrow, so hoping for clear weekend weather!
