The Chrysler Building by taiwandaily

The Chrysler Building

Waiting for the bus one day, I saw this very old building. You can't really see it, but the blue strip on the window says "Chrysler." I'm guessing it was an office for Chrysler.

Why would then need an office? Well from what I gather Chrysler used to be a pretty big deal in Taiwan. Although I'm basing this on completely no research at all. All my knowledge of Taiwan in the 80s and early 90s comes from old educational videos that I have seen here for teaching Chinese or English. In these old videos, the thing I really try and pay attention to is what is going on in the background. And believe it or not in almost all these videos, the large majority of cars I see in parking lots and on the street are Chrysler's cars.

So yes that's the flimsiest of data gathering possible. But fast forward to now and I have some more surprising news. I believe that the number one selling car company in taiwan is actually Ford. I know this was a fact about 4 or 5 years ago, but I don't know if it has continued.

You may be surprised, but actually the Ford cars here are not the same ones you would see on the streets of America. All the ford cars here are very unique cars built for the Taiwanese market, and essentially just look like the Nissans and Toyotas you would find in Japan. The number one selling car in Taiwan is the Ford Tierra which is only made here and looks more like a Mitsubishi Lancer.

All meaning that when you walk the streets you think ever car is a Nissan until you actually stop and look at the badge and see it's a Ford. Although Nissan is pretty popular here, so they could be the new number one. I could look it up and tell you, but then what would you do with your free time?
