I went to Walden Pond this morning. It is a popular place for swimmers who like to swim long distances in open water. They were all dragging inflatable floats along for safety. I hadn't seen that before. What a good idea. It's about half a mile (800m) across at the widest point, and about that deep at the deepest point.
I was reading about the floats. I thought they were just to give the swimmers something to hang onto if they got tired or injured. They are good for that, but they are also meant to make the swimmers more visible to boaters.
