We saw a couple of these on the side of the road so we pulled up and I practised my stalking skills as I followed him through the bush.
The Australian Bustard is one of our largest birds and a very interesting one at that. They have a very imperious or snooty air about them as they strut through the bush with their head held high and their chest puffed out as if they owned the place.
While they spend the majority of their time on the ground looking for grubs etc and are happy to walk away from potential threats, they are powerful fliers.
You don't see them that often even though their numbers are fairly safe in the northern grasslands of Oz. These we the first ones we had seen on this trip. In the south, they are becoming more and more rare.
