Over the last couple of weeks I have been whinging to myself about the fact that living in the city severely limits photo opportunities - no surf, no beaches, no rolling hills, no mountains, no lowing cattle, no rustic huts, no babbling brooks, no melting icicles, no big sky sunsets, no big sky sunrises. Oh woe is me!! Then on Monday when I was forced to use the city skyline as a subject, a light bulb came on. I am going to photograph my city - Brisbane. I have never gone out and deliberately taken photos of the city before but for the next 300 days, it will be my background job. First up - the Walter Taylor (Indooroopilly) bridge.
The Walter Taylor (Indooroopilly) bridge is the second oldest of the bridges that cross the Brisbane River and links the Brisbane suburbs of Indooroopilly and Chelmer. It was opened in 1936 and until 2010, was the only bridge in the southern hemisphere that had accommodation in the towers. It is just a couple of clicks from where I live
Used to drive over this every night when I lived at Graceville. It's funny, I think that my photo oops are severely limited living in the country! No awesome nightshots, no cityscapes, no street photography etc etc! I suppose we need to open our eyes a bit more
Great photo! I have visited Brisbane twice and LOVED it on both occasions....you have plenty there to photograph! I look forward to seeing if I recognize many places. Enjoy Brisbane:)
I just love the thoughts you've shared here about photography subjects or the seeming lack thereof. I feel your pain. I too am tempted to whine about the lack of subject material for even though I live in the country, it feels more like the wilderness because of the vast empty agricultural fields which are at their utmost ugliness this time of year. But I'm inspired by your new path for 365 and I so look forward to seeing the Brisbane you'll be seeing through your camera's eye.
On that note, thank you for the generous compliments on my macro feather. Around here, it's not too hard to find a stray feather to photograph.
