I had an ulterior motive for selecting todays pic. One of my (and my wife's) addictions is genealogy and as I said in my profile, one of my goals was to include a pic from each of my interests. My grandparents were married in St Stephens Cathedral in 1895 - he was from Prussia and she was Irish. Now that's an interesting mix. I can now tick off the genealogy box.
My wife and I have travelled all over Australia, England Ireland and Scotland as well as places in Poland and Germany photographing the various places where our ancestors were hatched, matched, toiled and despatched from. But we had not photographed the two places in Brisbane that we needed - until today. One of them was where we were married. "Nah - that's just Brisbane. We can get that anytime." Well now we have
What a great idea Terry! Lovely capture of the cathedral, very impressive. I think it is important to get an understanding of where your ancestors come from!
Fantastic pov, the church looks small amongst the larger buildings, but is still grand.
I'm glad you ticked off another box, sometimes we can get caught up in life (me included) and not make time for something we mean to do.
@moxy Hi Shelley, People always ask how far have we gone back but of course there is no simple answer to the question. For a couple of twigs of the family tree, we only managed the early 1800s but for a few others, we have got back to the 1200s and 1300s. It is so addictive and a lot of fun (and a lot of hard work).
Wonderful contrasts here between the modern and the traditional. And very interesting to hear about your family tree. Loved your line about 'hatched, matched...' Well worded!
@onewing@mccarth1@leestevo@sabanford@lyndemc Thanks everyone. Hatched matched and despatched was a term that people used to use about looking up the births, deaths and marriages in the newspaper. We were also interested in where they lived and worked - or toiled.
