Wot? More Birds?? by terryliv

Wot? More Birds??

We don't get Kookaburras very often for some reason or other but late this afternoon, one suddenly appeared. Did the normal thing of grabbing a few quick pics from a distance and then got some food for him. Got closer - a few more pics, even closer, better pics and next thing he was taking food out of my hand. I have no idea of what is going on but obviously he is very familiar with other humans as he showed no concern at all - even when the flash was going off. SOOC - no crop.

What a fantastic experience! I just love this portrait, Terry. He is like "This is my best side". Such intelligence in his eyes. Fav!

Nice shot. We get two kookaburra's who are regular visitors to our garden. They are very tame too and feed out of your hand. If you think about it, with a beak that size they aren't going to be scared of you.
When our two are naughty and chase the lorikeets I spray them with the hose pipe but they still don't move. ha ha.

They certainly aren't shy birds. We get them regularly at the house in Mt Beauty. Even though they are very noisy it's great to have them around.

Do they sit in gum trees like in the song? Great close-up shot.

Hey Poppo. Def not the same Kookaburra, mine was flighty and would fly off when I took a step closer. Great pic by the way :-)

You are the Bird Whisper of Brisbane! This is an incredible close up of a 'wild' animal. If I might ask, what did you feed the Kookaburra?

@lyndemc They are meat eaters Denise so the same food as the magpies and butcher birds ie pet (cat/dog) mince. Actually they are very funny. They still have the natural instinct to kill their prey so when you give them a bit of meat, they bash it on the ground before they eat it.
