What a sorry sight this is.
Another perfect autumn day yesterday and we went for a walk along the river. Took many 365 worthy photos full of sweetness and light but decided to post this very depressing sight instead.
Prior to the 2011 Brisbane flood, Drift was an award winning restaurant (specialising in seafood) floating on the banks of the river at Milton. When I was working I had a number of lunches there and their Chilli Prawns were sensational. During the floods, part of the restaurant was ripped away and the image of it crashing into the Go Between bridge is one of the enduring images of the floods. Today it stands forlorn on the bank of the river and the last report I could find in Jan 2012 says that the owner is still planning to rebuild it.
On the left above the orange bits there is a small section painted blue with a black stripe underneath. The black stripe is the level the flood waters came up to.

That's such a sad story! To loose a great eating place isn't good. I can remember seeing these images on our news. Hope it is rebuilt soon....probably waiting on govt money to come through!
They were horrific floods Terry! I still have many vivid memories of vision that was televised. It is sad to think all this time has gone by and some things still are not back to normal.
It is a sad story. I remember seeing the floods on the news, it sure was a sad sight, I can still picture the debris floating down the river, and the courageous actions of the people using boats to manoeuvre the large bits and stop them from hitting the bridge.

Thanks everyone for you comments. My gut tells me that he wont rebuild. One of the clips I came across when I Googled it was that he was complaining that he had received zip in terms of assistance from the Government. He was still very angry that, on the day, he was prevented from taking steps to save the situation by the authorities and then they wiped their hands of him. I think the best we can hope for is that someone else takes the job on. He has now opened another restaurant at Brookwater, one of Greg Normans golf course developments on the outskirts of Brisbane.
@pdavies Yes Paul, the 2011 floods were very bad in SE Queensland. The worst of it was the horrendous flash flooding in Toowoomba and then in the country towns of Gatton and Murphy's Creek. I haven't tried it but Google them and see what you get.
