We were baby sitting Maggie today so we went for a walk into the city along the Bi-Centenary Bikeway (walkway?). It was a beautiful day with a fabulous sky and I ended up with a mountain of 365 worthy shots. Ended up deciding to feature the Kurilpa Bridge.
The Kurilpa Bridge is the second of two pedestrian/bikeway bridges built to connect the Brisbane CBD to the cultural and recreational precinct on the south bank of the river. The bridge was opened in 2009. It won some world wide architectural award in 2011 which usually means that no one else except other architects like it.
The name Kurilpa means "place for water rats" in the language of the local indigenous tribes.
It certainly looks like a very arty bridge. Not sure it is my cup of tea as far as design goes, but what do I know! Maybe I am getting old but the more off beat something is the more awards it seem to get.
Interesting features this bridge has. Sort of reminds me of places that have all sorts of paraphernalia out in search of better satellite reception. I suppose tho there's some real engineer genius behind the decision.
Thanks for the link to Flip's pictures. I've had a look-see through a number of them. He's quite the adventurous character. Benny's going to be asking now if he can go somewhere with me, that is if he sees the pictures. Ooops, he's sitting right behind me so something tells me he has.
